Q&A with StellaGhost

I had the pleasure of speaking with StellaGhost, one of the most intriguing emerging independent artists in the alternative scene today.

In this exclusive interview, she opens up about the meaning behind her artistic identity, the journey from covers to original music, the emotions that shape her songwriting, and the exciting future ahead.

For those discovering you for the first time, who is StellaGhost and what is the story behind your artistic name?

StellaGhost is a name I created many years ago when I was mainly focused on digital art. At that time, it represented me as a visual artist. Later, when I decided to seriously develop my other biggest passion — music, I chose to keep the same name because it already felt like part of my identity.

I’m Italian, I’m 30 years old, and I also work as an English teacher, which influences the way I communicate and write lyrics.

“Stella,” meaning star, has always been a word that resonated with me. “Ghost” was inspired by Michael Jackson’s song Ghosts, which I connected with because of its deeper meaning. To me, the ghost represents judgment and criticism surrounding the artist, rather than the artist itself.

You started your journey by releasing covers before moving into original music. How did those early experiences help shape you as an artist?

I started in 2024 out of curiosity and because I was inspired by hearing covers from other artists. It made me want to challenge myself and see what I could do with my own voice.

My first cover was Same Old Love by Selena Gomez, followed by 7 Rings by Ariana Grande. Later, I explored different genres, especially rock, with songs by OneRepublic, Imagine Dragons and Coldplay.

At the time, I was taking singing lessons, and now I’m studying guitar as well. Recording and releasing covers helped me understand how music is built — vocal technique, effects, editing and production. It was a very important phase for my growth.

Your music combines emotional storytelling with atmospheric and cinematic sounds. How would you describe your artistic style today?

My goal with original music has always been to express emotions, thoughts and experiences through sound.

Every song tells a story. Sometimes it’s about pain, sometimes growth, sometimes situations people may personally relate to. I want listeners to feel emotionally involved and maybe even helped by the music during difficult moments.

In terms of sound, I would describe it as alternative rock with touches of rap, gothic influences and sometimes pop elements. I love guitar-driven music and strong drums. Rock has always given me a lot of energy when I record.

What inspired you to begin writing your own original songs, and how different does it feel compared to performing covers?

A major inspiration for my lyrics comes from one of my collaborators. In the past, he published collections of poems in Italian, and later he also wrote short verses in English, which I personally took inspiration from when creating my own songs.

Some of my tracks, like “Waiting To Be Free,” “YOUR PAIN,” and “Mercy Of Your Lies,” which are part of the album EMPTINESS, as well as singles like “Curtains Rise,” “JUST LIVE,” and “RAINDROPS,” are influenced by that poetic background.

I believe that when a song is original, it gives you complete freedom of interpretation — you can shape it with your own style, your own vocal approach, and your own way of expressing emotions. With covers, on the other hand, there’s always a limit, because the song already belongs to someone else and carries an established identity. In that case, you often end up interpreting something that has already been built, rather than fully expressing yourself.

As an independent artist managing your own creative path, what have been the biggest lessons and challenges so far?

Being an independent artist is not easy. I usually start from the lyrics, then I build the musical arrangement, and after that I record the song. I also create the cover art myself, since I already have experience in drawing and editing.

Once the song is ready, it has to be distributed and promoted. That’s where short-form content and music videos come into play — I create them to help people discover my music, because I believe every song needs a visual identity to fully represent itself.

The challenges are present at every stage: when I create a short video, when I work on visuals, or even when I record a song multiple times until I feel it is truly ready to be released.

The biggest lesson I’ve learned is that building an audience takes time. But with consistency and patience, the numbers gradually start to grow.

Looking back at everything you’ve released so far, what moment are you most proud of?

I’m proud that I challenged myself and moved from covers into original music.

When I compare the version of me who was only singing other people’s songs to the artist I am now, I feel proud of the journey.

My first album EMPTINESS means a lot to me. Across 16 tracks, it tells a story of liberation and emotional release. I’m also proud of singles like I Listen.

What can listeners expect from StellaGhost in the future?

This project is only at the beginning, and I definitely want to keep growing because I truly love singing, music and expressing emotions through songs.

I’m already planning a second album for 2027. It will include slightly more electronic sounds while staying rooted in rock. Some songs will keep the cinematic atmosphere of EMPTINESS, while others will move into stronger rhythms and heavier guitar energy.

And before that, I can already say that a brand-new single is coming this May — and it will be something very special.

Final Conclusion

StellaGhost is an artist driven by authenticity, emotion, and the courage to transform personal experiences into music. From the early days of experimenting with covers to building a unique original sound, this journey reflects dedication, artistic growth, and a clear creative vision.

With a new single arriving this May and a second album already in the works for 2027, the future looks exciting for an artist who is unafraid to evolve while staying true to her identity. StellaGhost is definitely a name worth watching closely in the independent alternative scene.
